We need to thank George Lucas for creating Star Wars, which changed the sci-fi genre forever. However, when he sold the Star Wars franchise, there were fears about the future of the franchise. The Walt Disney Company acquired the franchise. The company will release the Star Wars Episode 7 film by 2015. While the film is not really part of the original, we can only hope that it will satisfy all the sci-fi fans out there who have an emotional stake to Star Wars Franchise.

The Star Wars Episode 7 movie is expected to take place three decades after the Return of the Jedi. Some members of the original cast, which includes Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Kenny Baker and Anthony Daniels are expected to reprise the roles that made them part of the cult sci-fi classic. The newer actors that are expected to take on newer character roles include Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Adam Driver, and John Boyega among others. For this particular film and all others coming after, George Lucas is expected to be a creative consultant. Considering the fact that he was the driving force behind the popular Star Wars films of three decades ago, that can only be good news. Others who are expected to take part in the new Episode 7 Star Wars films includes director J.J Abrams, screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, who co-wrote the script with Abrams, producers Kathleen Kennedy and Bryan Burk among others. The cast of characters, along with the production and direction team, should help produce an interesting film to rival George Lucas’ original version.

Shooting The Film

Shooting for the Episode 7 Star Wars film started at the end of the month of October 2012. Abu Dhabi and Iceland will provide the shooting scenes for the second part of the production of the film, which began in April 2014. If you are a fan of the Star Wars franchise, you have to wait until December 2015 though, to see the film in its entirety.

The Plot

It will be spoiling the surprise if we knew what is going to happen in the film. However, we do know a few things.The new film will be set in a period that is chronologically around three or so decades from the Return of the Jedi and after Darth Vader died.According to Abrams, you should expect the movie to deal more with emotions, than logic. Truthfully, there is no much to go on at this point, which makes the anticipation of the film that much more. George Lucas did state that the film would be more of an original story in its own right.

Speculations

Most of what is out there about the Star Wars Episode 7 film is speculative. Most of the speculation has been fueled by hints that industry insiders with a strong relationship to George Lucas have dropped over the years. One of the possible plots is the possible romantic relationship between Luke Skywalker and a female character. There is also going to be a possible focus on Luke and his attempts to become a Jedi Knight of the premium category. Another possibility would be to make the film more about Luke and show what happens to him in detail.

Since this is a chronologically advanced film, characters like Luke, Hans Solo and Princess Leia, would be expected to appear older, in their sixth and seventh decades. These characters as well as the newer ones are going to be faced with difficult moral and philosophical choices. Other possibilities of what the new film includes the possible rebuilding of the Republic. Some parties have speculate that George Lucas had nine or twelve outlines for the Star Wars series, which means that there is a possibility of five more after Episode 7 wraps up.

Future Plans

Disney and Star Wars

One of the things that you should expect is that the film is going to be the first in a Trilogy of Star Wars films under Disney. There have been public announcements from the major stakeholders for plans to have stand-alone films about some of the Star Wars characters within the next decade. The spin-offs may be done between each of the core films in the new trilogy under Disney. Plenty of video games, comic books like the Thrawn trilogy, and novels were created after the last Star Wars film before the episode 7. You should expect renewed interest in these products as well as those based on the new Star Wars episode 7 as soon as it is released. After all, the core sci-fi fans have been waiting for ages!
